What is my style of counseling?
Every counselor or coach has his or her own personal style of having a session. If you find yourself in my approach, you will probably acquire great results from our conversations.
Intuition vs Methods
I don’t have a certain methodic approach or a step by step system. I’m also not using certain excercises or other tools. In our conversations, the right information I need to share with clients is coming to me intuitively. I prefer a more spontaneous approach which can go in any direction over a system which has limits.
Relaxed vs Challenging
I’m not the kind of coach that will push you or trigger you as a drill sergeant. Our conversations have already a certain intensity because we can talk about personal and complex matters. So I don’t see the need to put extra oil on the fire. I believe more in positive encouragement and gentle peptalks than a shock-effect.
In depth vs General
Zooming in and out is important to acquire a deep understanding of the matter. I tend to explain a certain subject in different ways, with different examples and in detail, to provoke strong aha-moment with clients. The process of understanding something new happens on different levels and the purpose is to really grasp the insight fully.
Practical vs Theoretical
Because I offer counseling through conversations, the approach is more a mental one. But that doesn’t mean I will juggle with difficult concepts or it will be like a dry psychology course. Everything I explain is in layman’s terms, with many practical examples, and applied to your personal situation. You will be able to implement the insights from our conversations practically in your life.
Mental vs Emotional
When we have certain struggles in our life we sometimes feel the need to tell our story and ‘vent’ our emotions. Of course, we can reserve some time for that, but it’s not the purpose of counseling or coaching. Venting can definitely make us feel better, but it’s not changing our perspective or make us learn new things to become stronger and wiser to face similar circumstances in the future.
Client vs Patient
When you call on my services you are not seen as a patient but as my client. You are not ‘in therapy’ or in need to be cured from something. As a client you are looking for advice, information, inspiration, motivation to manage your personal obstacles, self-discovery or your spiritual path. To be my client means you have the strength and courage to work on yourself and our conversations are one of the tools you reach for.
What is my personality and perspective?
It’s inevitable for my personality, beliefs, strengths, and weaknesses to influence our conversations. You can decide if my personal perspective is to your advantage or not.
Optimism & Motivation
It’s one of my habits to try always to see things from a positive perspective. Life can be very hard, but even difficult times can often provide positive consequences. Our mind has the power to make sense of every situation from several perspectives, so let’s always try to find the most optimistic and hopeful one. For example, whatever doesn’t kill us makes us stronger!
Growth happens effortlessly
People often think they have to follow certain steps or undertake certain actions to change or to improve themselves. Instead, I believe growth happens effortlessly. We don’t need to control or structure our process of growth. When you have a curious attitude and you are fascinated about understanding how you and life works, you grow naturally. Just keep opening your mind and the rest follows by itself.
Open mind & Open heart
Our conversations are happening in a judgment free space. We can talk about everything without feeling ashamed or guilty about it. Whatever you would like to share, I approach with an open mind and an open heart. There are no cultural, religious or moralistic values I might use to hold against you. The only thing of importance is that we try to be the best version of ourselves, no matter our past.
Humor & Story
I’m a person who doesn’t take life too seriously. Reality is what it is, so let’s not overdramatize it. Let’s try to take things lightly instead. Our conversations are of course often about serious and complex matters, but I like to put a smile on your face too. Also, funny stories or examples can provide interesting insights which are more accessible to understand.
Problem solving
We don’t need to overanalyze every detail and dig deep in the past to find the cause of everything. We are living right now today, so let’s figure out how we can serve ourselves best here and now! I believe most of our focus and energy should be used to solve a problem, instead of analyzing it. Let’s concentrate on adopting the right perspectives and knowledge about what we can do about our situation right now.
Channeling & Flow
The way I talk with clients is very intuitive. This means that most of what I tell comes in my mind spontaneously without thinking. I’m actually channeling the information to you when I’m in a certain flow. This means that most of what I share to you in my conversations is information especially for you personally, without using standard explanations I read in books or I’ve learned in trainings.
What are the components of our connection?
The moment we are having conversations together, we are having a certain connection or relationship, which has certain criteria and boundaries.
Ethical integrity
It is evident that our connection is only benefiting from a high ethical integrity. From my part there is no agenda to misuse our time together for any misconduct like serving any self-interest in any form. I pledge to honor your safety and well-being at all times and of course I trust and rely on my clients to feel and do the same.
Informal but focused
There is no need for any formalities. We are both people and equals in any case. We can talk with each other as friends, but the focus should always lay on the subject as much as possible. Every client is equal in my eyes and I try to maximalize my time in advising and answering questions.
Confidentiality
Without a doubt the confidentiality of our conversations is of great importance. Like in any relationship is also the relationship between client and counselor based on trust and honesty. Therefore, our sessions will not be recorded and I also don’t keep any notes or records from our talks whatsoever.
