Once, a long time ago,
there was only darkness.
An infinite night and silence,
an emptiness with hidden potential.
Life was still asleep and unaware.
Life was waiting patiently,
for something so vulnerable, so loving, so courageous…
Hence it took a while before it happened.
Scattered through space there were unrealized stars.
They were curiously waiting but blind.
Being cold, alone and barren,
they were hiding in the pitch-black void.
Each of them knew a very scary truth.
When they would be the first to ignite their fire,
they would be irreversibly exposed.
Who knows what’s hiding in the dark?
They would be revealed in their essence,
naked, defenseless and for everyone to see.
Theirs would be the very first glow to be.
It is a risky endeavor to be this pioneer of light.
All the other stars in the cosmos,
could easily judge, mock and laugh with their shine.
They could stay safely in their murky shelters,
while taking advantage of the dupe’s radiance.
So all was kept black for eons of time.
The pressure was rising, but nothing happened.
All stars were gazing in the dark and restlessly demanding.
Who would be the first to ignite?
One of the globes so precious and small,
felt so miserably alone, without purpose and a somber soul.
One day she looked inside herself and asked: “what to do? where to go?”
“Who am I? Am I alone? I need to know.”
The deeper she looked, the warmer she got.
On a certain day, she knew for sure.
The only way to know is to shine against all better judgment,
to put light on all what is, on all that is unknown.
And a sudden love came to her so pure, so divine.
It came from the void in her, from the emptiness she felt inside.
It was too much to take, it had to come out.
So she shone the love she obtained through the light in her.
She lit her light and the first star was born.
She discovered the infinite, the might, the potential.
So love overwhelmed her and she shone some more.
Vulnerable but with courage empowered, she gazed…
On the other side of the plane far away,
a star somewhat fragile as her exploded in light.
Slowly many others followed, hesitating but thorough.
So many, a million times her size and beyond lit up.
There was no darkness any longer.
No fear, no loneliness, no pain.
All stars belonged to each other,
encouraged by the love and fire within.
Maybe if you look inside as well,
you discover that you are full of light.
No need to hide any longer, to escape
or to pretend you are not what you are.
When there is darkness and doubt,
be the first star to shine.
When you show courage and shine,
you will bring light to others and never be alone.
